Conference ‘Psychosocial Care in the Middle East’ – 6 June 2019
On 6 June 2019, Cordaid and The Greater Middle East Platform will organise a conference on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in the Middle East. Join us!
Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) is becoming an important topic within the field of international cooperation. Dutch aid organisation Cordaid acknowledged the great need for MHPSS while it was implementing health care projects in Iraq in 2017. Cordaid recruited a Yezidi social worker in Northern Iraq, and has further expanded MHPSS activities in Iraq since then.
Health practitioners from other parts of Iraq, as well as donors and ministries in the country, have started to approach Cordaid to discuss MHPSS. Dutch minister for International Trade and Development Cooperation, Sigrid Kaag, is also asking attention for psychosocial care as part of development aid policies. She will host a conference on the topic later this year.
Because of the huge needs and the growing interest, Cordaid initiates two conferences on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in the Middle East. The first took place in Iraq, in May 2019. It provides input for the second conference, which will take place in the Hague on 6 June 2019.
This second conference aims to collect practices from the Middle East and North Africa, and to provide input for current policy discussions. Cordaid organises this conference with the support of the Greater Middle East Platform. You are very welcome to join us on 6 June!
